Piano journey update!

Posted by Solacitude - February 16th, 2025

Hello newgrounders!

It's been a while I didn't post a news, so here it is!

I'm gonna try to keep it short and sweet.

After the NGADM I took a little break from recording, and posting music. But I'm not gone!

In December I bought a new 88 notes keyboard - Arturia Keylab Essential - I had to get used to it before being able to play "as well" as I did before! A little bit of adaptation.

I think I managed to do that ^^ I also got East West Hollywood Orchestra OPUS edition during black Friday sales.... Which I can't run on my old computer, so now I'm in the process of building a new one, one piece at a time. In a couple months it should be completed! until then I can't use my orchestral package, though I will maybe start publishing some orchestral pieces as well, once I get the new computer, and get the hang of it and I feel like I compose something worth presenting to you!

Now music side, I've been a bit quiet for some time after the NGADM, sorry for that!

I had to learn at least the basics of FL Studio (That I won in the NGADM 2024 : Thank you again for that NGADM organizers and donators!) to be able to use the piano VST that came with my keyboard (UVI Steinway grand), I love the sound of it! I hope yo udo to!

I participated to the VGMC, organized by @Everratic by creating a piece called "The tale of Sir Corvin"

Then @CrispyBatteryAcid asked to make a collaboration with me, which turned out to be a very nice experience! And resulted in an instrumental track that I find sounds beautifully! I've made a piano piece to which he added his personal touch with all the other instruments, and he also composed all the part after 2:00! We went back and forth for 3 days, revising and polishing it, before posting the final result. He's only 6 months into using FL Studio and making music, which is quite impressive, a rising star!! I encourage anyone reading this to follow him, pretty sure he's gonna craft some master pieces soon enough! :)

Here's the result of this collaboration :

Then I could add two improvisations... First one that is an old recording that I made using only one chord!! For musicians out there, I encourage you to try this exercise! ^^

This whole piece is in EbMaj :D

And finally, this one, which I recorded in the past week... I used the C whole tone scale, without the 5th (G#). It's very challenging, no semi tone or 5th to play with, but I liked what I recorded so I posted there if you dare listen to it!

Thanks for reading me! I hope you find something enjoyable in what I publish! And if you do, make sure to hit that follow button to get notified when I put a piece out there :D

P.S. I've sent something for the Mall Collab that will be published soon! (Deadline is today 15/02/2025) so you can expect a new one in the next couple days!

It pretty much sums it up for now!

Have a nice day, or evening, or night!

WOOOOOOOOOO THIS IS SOME HARD FIRE MY HOODLUM G HOMEBOY LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I was kinda under the impression you were a madman in a practice room at some sort of university frantically trying to manually move around your microphones around the room to get the perfect sound. Like you literally had 4 tripods set up or smth with microphones recording you live as you played on an actual Steinway. And all those microphone edits you made were just adjusting those in real time.

Regardless of my very specific imagination for how you recorded your work, I’m glad to hear you now have an orchestral VST. It’s time to put some orchestral oomph behind the emotion of your pieces. Though I don’t want to see it overtake the simplicity of a pure piano sound, rather just supplement and support its journey.

hahaha that's a funny imagery going on ^^
Recording an actual Steinway in a studio with good quality mics would be the best way to capture an ideal piano sound! I have to rely on VSTs and a keyboard. Some libraries come with easy to use presets, different levels of precision, different color. Though I try to do my best in post process to craft a sound that is pleasing to listen to, and I also do my best to play in a way that makes the library's qualities shine. The same Steinway piano recorded by two different library creators can sound completely different!

You hit something here about the orchestral library. I'm not sure I'll publish anything other than piano with this name. At first I was thinking about keeping "Solacitude" 100% piano, and I may stick to this idea .Other than potential collaborations where there could be any instruments, I think I might publish only piano on this account. I would probably a different name for other instruments, orchestral and maybe electronic at some point too.

@Solacitude honestly electronic from you would be very interesting indeed. Funny how we’ve essentially had the opposite progressions, me electronic to orchestral and you classical to orchestral then maybe electronic. If you do end up creating a second account, I’ll be sure to follow that one as well.

I finally created it! ^^ https://solactro.newgrounds.com/ I will now post anything that is not piano over there.

Everything can be learned in any of those genres so your progression is as valid as mine. For as long as we have this passion for music, it's all we need to keep progressing. I will probably make a news post announcing my new account soon enough so at least people who follow my piano journey know that I dabble in other genres too. I felt like it's the right thing to do in order to keep consistency with Solacitude account.... I wouldn't want people following me, expecting piano, to suddenly be thrown off by some crazy electronic experiments! :)
